Impulse buying — we’ve all done it; we’re all guilty of it. We know how hard it can be when you’re standing in the check-out line to resist picking up that candy bar that keeps calling your name or to pretend you don’t see that new chapstick that just made its way out on the market.
As a matter of fact, anywhere between six and 10 purchases in a store can be classified as impulse purchases. With all of the shopping choices we are given on a daily basis, a new browser extension was designed to help us prevent overspending, which is especially crucial during the holiday season.
If your online shopping habits are seemingly out of control, if you notice you keep spending the extra money you have on BOGO products you find when you’re at the check-out aisle, then this new Chrome extension was designed for you. For impulse buyers and shopaholics everywhere, IceBox is what you need in your life RIGHT. NOW.
According to MentalFloss, Finder.com created the extension to help shoppers actually think about what they’re buying before they actually add it to the shopping cart. If you find certain impulse items online that you think you need, the Chrome extension takes that product and essentially “freezes” it so that you can’t purchase it at that time.
Once the product has “melted” (which takes a certain amount of time), you are then able to purchase the product if you actually really want to. The typical amount of time in which the app puts the product “on ice” is 30 days. This time frame gives the buyer a chance to actually think about what they’re looking into buying. If they’re still thinking about it after that 30 days has passed, then clearly, they should be able to buy it. IF they don’t want it, they will have avoided an other impulse purchase.
During the holiday season of spending, it may be hard to determine whether or not you should buy an item you think you really, really want. Using the extension will help you prove to yourself if you actually need it in your life.
