A number of studies have claimed that those people who run 2 or 3 hours a week have long lifespan than high-mileage runners. Gone are the days when people were thinking that running was highly beneficial for physical fitness, cholesterol and blood pressure.
Researchers hold the opinion that moderate running is better than the famous physical mantra that “Run more”. Dr. Martin Matsumura and his colleagues assisted the gathered data from 3,800 men and women runners and they all were of 46 years of age. When they were asked how many miles they are running in a week, 70 percent of them replied that 20 miles a week.
Besides, the runners had also provided some information pertaining to their health and said that they use NSAIDs painkiller for physical relief. They further said that high cholesterol, diabetes, smoking history, family history of heart disease and high blood pressure are the common heart risk problems and most of us excessively use NSAIDs painkiller.
The team of researchers of Dr. Martin Matsumura negates that excessive use of NSAIDs is very dangerous to heath and it may be reason that most of the runners loss their longevity. Matsumura said that we do not ask Americans do not run rather we ask high mileage runners to learn about this new study.
He recommends that moderate running is better than high mileage running. Besides, Dr. James O’Keefe, director of preventive cardiology has also suggested that shorter running has more health benefits than the longer running and chronic exercise will not provide the same degree of fitness which can be easily obtained from the 2 to 3 hours of running in a one week.
