Ruby Rose Cast to Play the CW’s Batwoman


The DC universe is full of superheroes varying in looks and personalities. And now, Ruby Rose has been cast as Batwoman, also known as Kate Kane, who will be the first openly lesbian superhero to have her own series on the CW.

Batwoman was first introduced the to DC universe in the 1950s, primarily as a love interest for Batman. But in 2006, she was reintroduced as a lesbian who was also of Jewish descent. Ruby Rose, who is a lesbian herself, has expressed the utmost excitement to play the winged superhero.

“I feel like the reason I got so emotional is that growing up, watching TV, I never saw someone on TV that I could identify with, let alone a superhero, you know?” explained Rose.

With about 3.76 million American children choosing to dress up as their favorite superhero for Halloween, it’s more important than ever to have superheroes each and every child can identify with. And while there are other LBGTQ characters on the CW, like Sara Lance from Legends of Tomorrow and Curtis Holt, From Arrow Batwoman will be the lead in her very own series.

Batwoman will be joining the CW family, and is expected to have crossover episodes with Arrow and The Flash as well. The Batwoman series is in development for the 2019-2020 season, but there still aren’t very many details available to fans yet. However, it has been announced that Caroline Dries will be the executive producer for the show, along with Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and Geoff Johns.

CW did release an official description of the show, which read, “Armed with a passion for social justice and a flair for speaking her mind, Kate Kane soars onto the streets of Gotham as Batwoman, an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city’s criminal resurgence. But don’t call her a hero yet. In a city desperate for a savior, Kate must overcome her own demons before embracing the call to be Gotham’s symbol of hope.”

Fans are sure to be excited about seeing what kind of outfits and gadgets Batwoman will be showcasing. But of course, the creators will still have to be mindful of the props they use, like adhering to laws under the Counterfeit Detection Act of 1992.

Due to the lack of information provided to fans so far, people are continuing to speculate where exactly Batwoman will fit into the multiverse that is known as the Arrowverse. But nonetheless, fans are excited to see Rose’s debut as Batwoman within the next few years.
