Since the dawn of Hollywood, celebrities have lent their voice and image to brands and products. Now, launching your own personal home decor line is one of the latest aspirations of C-List celebrities. This summer, 18-year-old “Duck Dynasty” star Sadie Robertson launched a “Live Original” home decor line. The Christian commerce brand Glory Haus will distribute Robertson’s line, which is available to customers and reality TV fans this August. Described by The Christian Post as a budding “fashion empire,” in a very generous use of the words “fashion” and “empire,” the Live Original line features decorative home decor ornaments and jewelry, with a focus on positive Christian messaging. Each item is meant to showcase the star’s Christian faith, by putting positive and inspirational quotes on neat little knick-knacks for your home. “Live original is the message I share everywhere I go…[It’s] living who God created you to be and being confident in the person you are,” Robertson said. Robertson isn’t the only minor celebrity trying to cash in on the home decor craze. Studies show that 47% of Americans haven’t updated their home decor in five or more years, often because of recession-inspired belt tightening. Now, for the first time in years, spending on home improvement is steadily increasing. Also this July, YouTube and “Dancing With The Stars” personality Bethany Mota is teaming up with Aeropostale for her new home decor line. Named one of Cosmo’s most fascinating people on the Internet in 2015, Mota wanted to share her Do-It-Yourself spirit with a new line, which will allow customers to express themselves through decorative pillows. Home decor lines have long been a celebrity favorite for making extra money on the side. Reality TV star Lauren Conrad previously collaborated with Kohls.com, while pop star Jessica Simpson launched a line through Bed, Bath and Beyond. Other celebrities who have profited off the trend range from minor stars like “Real Housewife” Lisa Vanderpump to mega-stars like Justin...

Marlene Sanders, a Pioneer in TV Journalism, Has Passed Away

Jul 22, 15 Marlene Sanders, a Pioneer in TV Journalism, Has Passed Away

Posted by in Entertainment, Featured

A pioneer in TV journalism has passed away at the age of 84. Marlene Sanders, who lost her fight to cancer on July 14, is being remembered as one of the first female broadcast journalists. The death was announced on Facebook by her son Jeffrey Toobin, who is a legal analyst for CNN and a staff writer for the New Yorker. He wrote, “She was a pioneering broadcaster and, above all, a great Mom.” Sanders became the first female news anchor for a prime-time newscast in 1964, after filling in on ABC for Ron Cochran when he lost his voice and was unable to go on air. In addition, in 1966 she was the first woman to report from Vietnam for a TV network. In 1976, she became the first woman named vice-president of ABC News. Although Barbara Walters is generally credited with being the first woman to appear on the news, she did not appear on television until 1976. For three months in 1971, Sanders took Sam Donaldson’s spot on the Weekend News, which ran on Saturdays. She also was the producer of hundreds of ABC’s documentaries, for which she won three Emmy Awards, before moving to CBS to be a documentary producer and correspondent, in 1978. Later in life, she became an adjunct professor in the journalism department at New York University. She remained there as a professor and mentor to her students, until recently, when her health started to deteriorate. She passed away at the Calvary Hospital Hospice. With households now owning 2.24 televisions on average, TV news is still a widely used way of obtaining information. However, with the rise of news apps and websites, it is clear that Sanders’ success happened during the golden era of television news, making her achievements all the more...

Why Did Kylie Jenner Spend $2 Million on Cosmetic Surgery? The Answer May Surprise You

Jul 15, 15 Why Did Kylie Jenner Spend $2 Million on Cosmetic Surgery? The Answer May Surprise You

Posted by in Entertainment, Featured

Did Kylie Jenner really drop $2 million on cosmetic surgery to look like her older sister, Kim Kardashian? According to OK! Magazine, that’s exactly what the youngest of the Jenner/Kardashian clan is doing, and her transformation may go beyond skin deep. The Keeping Up with the Kardashians star allegedly underwent 12 different procedures — a number typically reserved for completely reshaping bodies. The anonymous source who spoke to OK! Magazine said Kylie had a breast augmentation and butt boost along with a number of facial surgeries, such as upper eyelid surgery, eyebrow lifts, eyelid surgery, a chin implant and jaw reshaping, and even rhinoplasty. Twelve surgeries is a considerable amount for one person, but a small number compared to the 11 million total cosmetic surgeries that were performed in 2013; that number represented a 12% increase from 2012 and has only gone up since then. Seventeen-year-old Jenner has gone through a notable transformation in recent years, and OK! Magazine’s source says that’s the way Kylie wants it. “She looks absolutely nothing like she did a few years ago,” the anonymous tipster said, “and it’s been the plan all along to transform herself as much as possible into Kim.” Kim, 34, reportedly thinks it’s “cute” that her younger sister “idolizes” her, according to the source. But she might not think it’s so adorable if Kylie pulls off her other plans to steal the spotlight from her famous older sibling. One idea the youngest of the famous family has: making a sex tape, just like her big sis, Kim. Kardashian rose to fame after a sex tape she made with boyfriend Ray J in 2003 was released years later. And it looks like Kylie wants to do the same thing with her 25-year-old rapper boyfriend Tyga — despite Kylie being a minor and eight years his junior. So far there’s no word from the star herself on whether these claims are...

The Key to Instagram Stardom? Hanging a Moon, Apparently

Jul 15, 15 The Key to Instagram Stardom? Hanging a Moon, Apparently

Posted by in Entertainment, Featured

As of March 2015, Instagram’s some 200 million monthly active users had uploaded 30 billion photos. Although many of these photos are gratuitous selfies, shots of lackluster meals, and holiday pictures meant to make followers jealous, there are scores of others that are a bit more risque. Celebrities show off skin all the time. You only need to glance at a supermarket’s magazine rack to see that, but recently, male celebrities have been posting some surprisingly cheeky photos. Following the Fourth of July weekend, pop superstar Justin Bieber posted a picture of himself in the full-monty. In the shot, Bieber stands on a boat in his birthday suit, facing away from the camera, pointing towards a majestic island a good distance across cerulean water, his bare butt there for the world to see. In less than 24 hours, Bieber’s butt had racked up as many likes as there are people in Manhattan. He wasn’t alone. Soon after Bieber bared his butt to behold, Chrissy Teigen posted a picture of her husband, singer songwriter John Legend, displaying his derriere. What’s particularly interesting about this little trend isn’t the boldness these celebs seem to have, but rather the effect it has. As the New York Post reports, evolutionary scientists claim that rears are particularly attractive because they represent “real estate that is in some ways the most intimate part of us, and in other ways is terra incognita.” Basically, butts are both mysterious and sexy. The strategy of using one’s posterior for social media fame isn’t new, either. Instagram celebrity Jen Selter has racked up a whopping 1.3 million followers simply by posting photos and videos of her exercising her yoga-panted- and tights-clad gluteus maximus. In other words, if you want to get more famous on Instagram, you may want to hang a...

Bayville Dinosaur to be Covered in Shrink Wrap

Jul 15, 15 Bayville Dinosaur to be Covered in Shrink Wrap

Posted by in Entertainment, Featured

The resident of Berkeley Township, New Jersey are taking great pains to preserve a large blue brontosaurus endearingly known as the Bayville dinosaur. The Berkeley Times reports that the Bayville dinosaur on Route 9 will soon be entirely covered in shrink wrap as the township decides how to best preserve the beloved landmark. The townspeople have already organized an ad hoc committee dedicated to protecting the local attraction. The committee recently removed the dinosaur’s head when it noticed it was in danger of falling off and, moreover, found that it was too close to Route 9 for comfort. The committee members aren’t the only people who are concerned about the dinosaur’s future. The major, the city council, the Berkeley Historical Society, and the Police Benevolent Association are working with the committee to negotiate with the landowner of the property the Bayville dinosaur resides in. Steve Baeli, the organizer of the committee, says that volunteers will cover up the dinosaur in shrink wrap soon. He realizes, though, that a long-term solution for the dinosaur will require more fundraising. “It’s like restoring a house, there are lots of ways to go,” Baeli said. Built in the 1930s, the Bayville dinosaur has undergone several changes, including different paints, metal spikes, and even hand imprints. Facing north on Route 9 close to the intersection of Butler Boulevard, the 12-foot structure current stands on property owned by Texas investment company Acquired Capital. Baeli hopes that a deed restriction could be in the works or, failing that, that the dinosaur could be designated as a historical landmark. Perhaps the dinosaur’s greatest claim to fame is that it was showcased in the 1939 World’s Fair in New York, adding on to its historical relevance. Shrink wrap is just one of the many packaging options available to the township. As an industry, packaging makes an estimated $7 billion in revenue every...

Posted by in Entertainment, Featured

A rapper who rose to fame in the 1990s as a member of Tupac Shakur’s group The Outlawz has died in a car crash. Hussein Fatal, born Bruce Washington, Jr., died in a car crash on Saturday, July 11. He was 38 years old. His death was confirmed on social media by others in The Outlawz. “Rest in Paradise our brother Hussein Fatal he passed away in a car accident,” the rap group wrote on Twitter. Posts also asked followers to pray for his family and children. Funeral expenses for the rapper’s unexpected death pose a financial hardship on his family, said the group, and they launched a GoFundMe page to cover the costs. In just one day, the page has raised more than $10,000 to help his family with funeral and living expenses. Fatal, who was born in Montclair, NJ, changed his name after converting to Islam. Details of the car crash have not yet been released. According to national statistics, more than half of all road crash deaths involve drivers, passengers, or pedestrians between the ages of 15 and 44, like Fatal. Fatal had been featured on the 1996 hit “Hit ‘Em Up,” in addition to rapping on “All About U” and “When We Ride.” The Outlawz continued to make music after Shakur’s death in 1996; the group’s most recent album, Perfect Timing, was released in 2011. Fatal also released four solo albums between 1998 and 2013 and 18 mixtapes during his career. Fellow group member Mutah “Napoleon” Beale took to Facebook to mourn the rapper’s death, saying, “He was my old group member and friend for over 20 years and he will be missed. Death comes sudden [without] warning and we ask Allah to give us a good ending.” Other stars, including Talib Kweli, Juicy J, and Rosie Perez also expressed their condolences on social...
